Working

Being out – i was out almost most all of October, first birthday trip to Goa, then office off-site to Jadhavgad, then Diwali and other stuff, and just last week to a friends place to Karjat.

Doing Noting

Well the latest is i have been installing a new operating system “Ubuntu”. Do not ask what, why, just did the update some days back and this week was all busy in getting the upgrade to Karmic Koala. Its not be easy going with it there are some issues in the upgrade and this week with watching the new episodes of “the Big Bang Theory” and “How i met your Mother”

Well its Thursday and waiting for Friday because the weekend is going to be great since many new things are going to occur. One of them is gonna set the ball running for a whole lot of things. You would have to wait for it. Its going to be ….. sh sh sh.

Just about nothing

Well i have nothing to do around except work. Bored i guess post twitter and all its a little boring to post to a blog. Well here is a low down on how things have been going

Post going to Goa which i must say i enjoyed a lot if you leave out the day wasted due to the rains which i wont complain

Then i went to a place called Jadhavgad an Old fort now transformed to a Star hotel

Then Diwali

Then State Elections

Well now its back to work again, i have installed ubuntu and now configured internet access as well so that i super cool

The Goa trip

Planned, re-planned and planned again, this trip did seem like it might just get caught up in the corporate whirlwind that we are all but it was not be, slight delays and rains not withstanding we did have a decent enough to write about.

Landing and Day 1

We landed on October 1 the primary aim of that day was that October 2nd was a dry day and like last year we did not want to have a situation of no booze so me and ei had taken an extra day off to get the preps under way. So we landed up at the hotel. Nothing great but decent enuf to stay, like we were going to stay. We just needed it to sleep in the night and store our luggage and all so that was sufficient.

Our place btw was in Calangute

Right in front of our hotel was “Infanataria”, its a famed dinner and desserts bar as they call it and there was a board which said 5 beers for Rs 100. Look no further we are here. 10 pints later and some Chicken Cafreal and grilled fish and a lot of more pasteries.

Why am i so irritated?

I have noticed myself getting very agitated and irritated over the last few days and the same is generally at work. But its not work that i am getting at. My work i love, it is everything around it that i am getting hyper about.

Evening brought some calm, but not before the usual getting hyper during the afternoon.

Around evening i was asking myself. What is so important that i am losing sleep over. Probably there is not. I also remembered a friend once telling me, if you do not do it would everything just shut down. Just then i remembered someone saying, “if there is 5 days up and down what is the problem” No there is no problem, its just that why wait for 5 days if you can close it down now.

Well i have thought.

Starting tomorrow morning, my work is all that is for me. Everyone else has to wait in line

Concentration levels have to go up way up.

Yes there is a lot of static that i do not need to hear, so i do need to hear and that is understood. I am not your friend. Am a co-worker lets keep it that way

Before making an opinion wait for 5 seconds and then say it, may be i would find a better way to put it.

Work for 5 days so 5 days do not think about anything other than work for the 8 hours there. Post that no thinking about it.

Primary responsibility is to my head and my heart, everything is second.

Configuring 24Online Client on Linux

Its really great to have a Linux client, more from a learning initiative as showing off to the buddies on how geek are you since there are too many Linux geeks out there. Anyways i had huge trouble in configuring the client. The main reason being am on a dual boot and i have just one computer so if i need to Google i have to reboot to windows and get the information i require.

Well in Ubuntu 9.04 the network connections link is broken, if you get online you might get an update but till then you cannot use the network connections at all

You need to get your hands dirty by opening the interfaces file in the /etc/ directory.

Here are the steps i had to do, well they are spread over a few days due to lack of time and everything else including laziness.

• from your windows side download the linux client from the server, this is the easier part.
• Setup your ip by getting to /etc/interfaces file.

gksudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces

auto eth0:1
iface eth0:1 inet static
address 192.168.1.60
netmask 255.255.255.0
network x.x.x.x
broadcast x.x.x.x
gateway x.x.x.x

Reason for gksudo is that it is a better known practice to using sudo to open graphical editors

• Now Restart your networking service by running sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
• Now setup the DNS, note in the windows ip address entering place the dns is at the same place not in ubuntu though

 

sudo vi /etc/resolv.conf

 

• now copy the installer tar to the home directory and run $ tar -zxvf CyberoamLinuxClient.tar.gz
• Then post getting inside the directory by running cd crclient <enter>; run ./crclient –s

then ./crclient –u

• You are there

Time to be 28

In about 2 weeks i become 28, well like Joey says when he finds out he has turned 30 ‘why god why ‘ well cant do anything with it right so why not just enjoy it. Don’t i become wiser by age well they told me so.:)

Whats Happening

Well am trying a old concept well am just trying to ignore everything and go about just doing my work and not get rattled by anything. At work specifically, I believe in doing something that is right, sometimes it may not be as the process says but time requires it so take a call, i do that and then get into trouble. Why becuase i need to wait till a proper process is to be followed.

So thats the end to it. Am not doing that again.

rat-a-TAT

TAT – Turn around time, have you heard it before? Am sure you would have, i hear it every time from the operations guys when they call me for some calls that are going to bust their tat’s et all. Some times i can help them some times i can. There are now a days when its is not supposed to be my job role (so am told) but that is another story.

I ask though another question. Why is this TAT, and why does it grow shorter every time. Am sure someone did a six sigma or time and motion study or some other course in this field and came up with this. I ask did you ask the customer on that TAT. Did you also factor quality in it?. Your answer might surprise you.

I believe in the concept, “Do it right first time” , just no reworks pls, It takes time and generally am able to get that from my users because they and i understand quality work requires time and effort. So why are these TAT’s so small and why is not quality an integral part of it. Quality never comes without a price and it is a worthy price to pay, but never in the short run, because it is always a loss. Plus the customer demands quality, generally he does not expect speed. If you send the customer sometime a few hours or a day later, believe me i do not think he/she would have a problem. Regardless of the commodity/service, the very fact the customer will get quality will make him give in to you.

Somehow this is very apparent as common sense but as they say common sense is not that common.

Why? i might say? Simple, we want everything in the short run, because as Keynes said, “in the long run we are all dead”. All the economic curves are either flat or smooth curves and we are not there to see it.

i(s)pill-ed and wasted

2 years ago started an Ad campaign for a contraceptive called “ipill”. At those moments thought as a great coming to age ad. Ok the Ad sucked but still the message was delivered at a proper time of the year, remember that time of the year where a lot of things happen lol.

Any ways 2 years down the line, i hate everytime the ad comes up which is every few minutes on every freaking channel am surfing, and i do not watch so much TV now a days. Plus the ad sucks so back that you can vomit your own suck. How is that

Hasn’t someone told the damn company why the ad aint worth running. The ad never was good enuf and then trying to shove it down everyone’s that head and ass just aint happening and it is hard to believe that you cannot make good ad’s cuz Vodafone and airtel just made 2 of them and they are awesome.

Please do not hurt ur own sales because ur ad department cannot make more than half an ad. Re-Running it in my head a zillion time over does not make matters any good.

#Michael Jackson.

There is an MJ special going on channel Vh1. I have not paid attention to TV that much, i know it has been going on for some days now, Vh1 wants to bring in his birthday with some specials about him.

I was watching ‘beat it’ and remembered the amount of MJ clones in school, the dance competitions wherein every year there was some MJ song. For the last few years its been quiet with controversies about him more than reality, i guess that is the price you pay for being famous. I also tried a few of the dance steps but knew from the start i was headed for disaster if i tried them on stage lolzz

MJ actually launched quite a few careers in dance for some of my friends, one of them who i am not in touch but i know he is a big shot dance choreographer in bolly-wood. People who called him names can eat shit now knowing what he does.

#Work

It is good, but i am not feeling happy. I wish it was because of others but i guess it is because of me. Sometimes i feel i should have the free time that some of my colleagues have. Would i not have time to learn. But then i guess more time you get, more you do things other than your goals. So i guess am better off. I have a lot of work i know that. And in a very diff way i should be happy about that. In this recessionary times, less work generally scares you. I need to get more organized than i am right now.

Am starting to wonder, when do you know what is the existence of your living. When do you find what are u in this world for? this question is quiet open. Am i not looking for clues. Am i not reading the fine print. Is it there and i am not reading them.

#Books

Harry Potter – The deathly hallows has completely bowled me over. I know the book has been out some time back, quiet a while back. Am reading it now. I had an audio book which i did listen for quite some time. Now when i finished reading this book i felt i was in the story. I love when i get so involved in the story.
